Pet Ownership and Adults' Views on the Use of Animals

This survey of people in Northern Ireland regarding pet ownership and attitudes toward various uses of animals found that people who were most likely to have a pet include married people, younger people, those living in detached homes, and those with children in the household. Attitudes toward animal usage depends primarily on the specific use of the animal under consideration.

The first in a series of annual surveys of attitudes and behavior among U.S. adults, the new report provides a baseline assessment of key perceptions and actions taken on behalf of animals. The Animal Tracker (Wave 1 - June 2008)

This report summarizes results from Wave 1 of the Humane Research Council's "Animal Tracker" survey of U.S. adults regarding their attitudes and behavior toward animals. This inaugural survey of 16 core questions shows strong support for the protection of all animals. The strength of that support varies by situation and species, however, and actual behavior does not always reflect the favorable attitudes identified.

Farm-Based Recreation: A Statistical Profile

Farm-based recreation provides an important niche market for farmers, but limited empirical information is available on the topic. Access to two USDA databases, the 2004 Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS) and the 2000 National Survey on Recreation and the Environment, provided researchers with a deeper understanding of who operates farm-based recreation enterprises, such as hunting and fishing operations, horseback riding businesses, on-farm rodeos, and petting zoos. Regression analysis identified the importance of various farmer and farm characteristics, as well as local and regional factors. [Excerpted from report]

Circus Animals Survey

Conducted in Great Britain in October 2005, this Animal Defenders International (ADI) survey on circus animals found that only 6% of respondents believe that it is necessary to whip or beat circus animals to train them effectively. In addition, 65% agreed that the use of performing animals in circuses should be banned, while 80% agreed that the use of wild animals in circuses should be banned.

Asks likely Denver voters a wide range of questions relating to the circus in general, as well as Ringling Bros specifically and support or opposition to state officials who support a ban on exotic animal displays. Also tests a wide range of positioning statements that seek to discredit the circus.
